These Pillsbury “Dough Dogs” Are Making Us CRAZY Hungry

Yesterday, when we got an email from Pillsbury announcing that the company had made some dogs out of Pillsbury crescent dough, we thought, “Whatever. You’re a dough company. That’s what you do.” [Editor's Note: And NO, this is not a sponsored post.]

Then we got a look at those dogs. And fell in love with those dogs. And wanted to eat those dogs. And were on the verge of going home to make those dogs, starting with the Basset Hound — or maybe the Shar-Pei (or the Poodle!) — before we realized going home to make dogs out of Pillsbury dough is not something people who have jobs should do at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

And then we saw something amazing, there in the dogs.

There were hotdogs inside those dogs.

HEADING HOME, BOSS!

Truly, these are works of art. The company might as well close, because what better way to cap a 140-year run than with a crescent dog shaped like a Dachshund? I want to eat the head off that Poodle right now. Imagine squirting a line of mustard down that Basset Hound's back and sitting down to an episode of Wipeout. That's a staycation right there.

Pillsbury, it seems, knows it has a good thing, and it has wrapped a contest around these creations. You, dog owner and lifelong crescent hotdog lover, will get to choose the next breed Pillsbury will make.

Crazy, right? Well, you take what you can get.

According to the company, just upload a picture of your dog to Instagram, Twitter, or Pillsbury's Facebook page, with the hashtag #pbdogdays, by July 29 for a chance to have the Pillsbury Kitchens create a crescent-and-hotdog version of your dog’s breed.

Check out more, including directions to make your own hot dog crescent dog, from the Dog Days of Summer website.

Nice Skin Allergies photos

Check out these skin allergies images:

Dr. Cathy Tieu and Barbara Venable gauge the reactions from LeAnn Redlinger’s patch test to diagnose any skin allergies during a Dermatology appointment at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital on July 27, 2012. (DoD photo by Tina Staffieri)

Aug. 31 marks one year since the hospital opened and started seeing patients. Our Dermatology Department has seen 7,979 patients since opening. We see the full spectrum of dermatologic conditions, and also offer cosmetic services on a space-available basis (Botox, Restylane, CO2 Resurfacing), and currently have plans to start offering Mohs Micrographic Surgery before the end of the year.

Not perfect, I’m fairly flawed in the skin department. I’m also getting pulled off my feet with allergies! Gah, I cannot afford to get knocked down, I got an important busy week with a hugely packed weekend.

Having issues getting skin tones right in RAW, I gave up — Lightroom is being evil.

Holly as a Puppy

Cute little Holly, around 9 weeks old. Holly was meant to become a service dog for Helping Paws. It was clear, a year into her training that her skin allergies and personality were not well suited to the life of a service dog, so we arranged for her to live with a friend of ours, to whom she was very attached. She now lives the carefree life of a farm dog, where she has the run of seven acres and passes the time with seven cats, two horses, two donkeys, two llamas, and two pygmy goats.

Charlie, the Griffon Bruxellois

This is Charlie and he’s one of the sweetest little dogs I’ve met. He’s a Griffon Bruxellois or Brussels Griffon which is a breed of toy dog, named for their city of origin: Brussels, Belgium. The Griffon Bruxellois may refer to three different breeds, the Griffon Bruxellois, the Griffon Belge and the Petit Brabançon. Identical in standard except for coat and colour differences, in some standards they are considered varieties of the same breed.  You can see two of them HERE – photographed at the Monaco Dog Show. Sometimes they are called ‘monkey dogs’ presumably because of their cute expressions.

The little wire-haired dog in the foreground of the Jan van Eyck painting The Arnolfini Marriage is thought to be an early form of this breed.

Charlie is 10 years old, although you’d never know it and he lives in Monaco. Absolutely adorable.

ASK-THE-VET: IS MY OLDER CAT GETTING ENOUGH FOOD

DrDonnaSpector-Morgan2011_250wQuestion: I have recently gotten a kitten of 3 months. My older cat (5 yrs) loves him but is a “grazer” and the kitten will eat his food and the older cat’s food to. I worry that my older cat is not getting enough food although he is large in size. Does it matter that they eat each others food?

Answer: Thanks for your inquiry. Your kitten and your older cat are able to eat the same food without a problem. However, it is a potential problem that your kitten is eating the “lion’s share” so to speak.

You don’t want him to over-eat as that can create issues with excessive weight gain and obesity from a young age. You also don’t want your older cat to get inadequate nutrients during the day. Often the best solution is to adopt a meal feeding approach to avoid this issue.

Hope this helps.
